First Flight for Diamond DA50

The definitive version of the Diamond DA50 high performance five-seat light aircraft (OE-VVV) made its first flight on October 28 at the hands of the company's head of flight test, Soren Pedersen. As originally announced in 2017, the all-composite DA50 had a fixed tricycle undercarriage and an SMA diesel engine, but there have been several subsequent versions test-flown with different powerplants and specifications. It has now been redesigned with a retractable undercarriage and a Continental CD300 engine. Diamond Aircraft, based at Wiener Neustadt in Austria, plans to complete certification by mid-2020.
