It was a time of upheaval for flybmi in 2018, not least of which was the aligning of its branding with its web address. The former bmi regional brand has been superseded, along with other changes including new leadership for the airline. Peter Simpson, group chief executive of flybmi's parent company, Airline Investments Limited (AIL), stepped back from the day-today running of the airline and began a long-term succession plan. In came Tim Shattock as interim MD (managing director) in mid-2018 to assist in this transition process. The role of MD was handed over to the airline's chief commercial officer, Jochen Schnadt, on October 11, while Shattock returned to his native Dublin to become chief executive of Simtech Aviation.
