B-52 RESURRECTED FROM THE BONEYARD

When Boeing B-52H 60-034 was mothballed at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base's "Boneyard" in 2008 after 17,000 flying hours, few could have predicted it would fly again. But when another B-52H burned up in a takeoff accident at Andersen Air Force Base on Guam in May 2016, plans were laid to use the bomber, dubbed Wise Guy, as its replacement. And when personnel from Davis-Monthan's 309th Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group checked out the venerable plane, they found a prescient plea scrawled in the cockpit: "AMARG, this is 60-034, a cold warrior that stood sentinel over America from the darkest days of the Cold War to the global fight against terror. Take good care of her.. .until we need her again."
