Air One Moves In To Fill Alitalia Void In Milan-U.S. Market

Italian carrier Air One says its first flights to the U.S. — from Milan to Chicago and Boston, starting in June — will be much needed if Alitalia follows through on plans to scale down operations (DAILY, Sept. 6). Air One told the U.S. Transportation Dept. that it faces "considerable market and political pressure to move quickly to fill this substantial transportation gap," since travel options for Northern Italy would be diminished and fares would likely increase. Five weekly flights to Boston would start June 14 and a six-times-weekly Chicago service June 21 [DOT-OST-2008-0073]. Air One would use Airbus A330s for the flights.
