There are more signs of positivity this issue. The data here on confidence and job vacancies suggests the business sector in particular is becoming optimistic of a long-term recovery and is gearing up for growth. Consumers are still showing signs of caution, however. Shopping is picking up, but now that the summer holiday season is over, borrowing on credit cards, overdrafts and loans has flattened. Many will hope the fall in inflation last month will be the start of a steady trend, as pay increases have continued to fall well behind the increased cost of goods and services.
