Elimination of the safety concerns and the inconvenience associated with underinflated or deflated tires has long been an automotive industry goal. Modern tire designs and improved road systems have greatly decreased the frequency of flat tires. Nevertheless, the average motorist can still expect to experience a flat tire about every 80,000 km. Hence, the motivation for providing a self-acting means of mobility after a loss of tire pressure.
