Model makes an impact

Prompted by falling, but still too high, accident rates, Europe leads the push for ever-greater levels of protection for the pedestrian. Anticipating legislative requirements, carmakers are now stepping up the effort to make cars less dangerous should they strike anyone. Three years ago, engineers at Ford Forschungszentrum Aachen (FFA) in Germany offered a future vision for pedestrian safety. From this came the creation of a real world accident simulation model in which an engineer could simulate any type of collision with a pedestrian.
