Making an impact

Despite its position as the leading I tier-one supplier in the automotive sector, Delphi does not rest on its laurels. The competition is too fierce for it to do that anyway, while the whole modus operandi of the organisation is borne upon an unceasing desire for improvement, whether it be in its products or way of doing business. As such, 1st January saw some structural changes to the organisation with a view to presenting more of an integrated business to its customers. One of the greatest realignments has affected what were formerly known as Delphi Delco Electronics and Delphi Safety and Interior Systems that have now been integrated to become Delphi Electronics and Safety with Jeff Owens heading up the new division. A native of Kokomo, Indiana, Owens began his career with General Motors as a college engineering co-operative student at Delphi Delco Electronics in 1973, so his association with the location and the company goes back 30 years. Following a variety of assignments in different engineering, finance and manufacturing groups, he was promoted to president of Delphi Delco Electronics, which is headquartered in Kokomo, in September, 2001. The first thing one notices about this realignment is the loss of the historic Delco name, one that has been in existence for over a 100 years.
