Renault used the IAA Show at Frankfurt to show off its latest ideas. Nargess Shahmanesh-Banks talked to Remi Decononick, senior vice president of product planning, about the French carmaker's plans. Having positioned itself as the quintessential avant-garde carmaker, Renault has plenty to live up to, especially with show cars. The latest concept car to come off the drawing board and which was unveiled at Frankfurt is the Egeus, which reveals Renault's take on an upmarket SUV This will not, however, form the exact design DNA behind the forthcoming SUV which the French carmaker has hinted will be with us by 2007. "We will enter the 4x4 sports-utility market in the coming years," says Remi Decononick, senior vice president of product planning at Renault, "but we think that we would need to come up with something that is maybe a little different. Therefore we are thinking along the lines of a hybrid concept that is somewhere between a 4x4 and a saloon, an estate and MPV," he reveals. In other words the new car will create what he describes as "the sensation of what we are seeing as the direction of a sports-utility vehicle."
