This is the sort of computer-aided design tool most carmakers can only dream about. You have probably seen something superficially similar at car shows or motorsport events, a pod mounted on hydraulic rams able to tilt and toss its occupants in a convincing 3D g-force reminiscent of a ride on a rally stage, video image bucking and bouncing ahead, sound effects crashing and banging. And then there are the PlayStation simulators, their computer graphics ever more realistic. Here, though, the disbelief is yet more suspended and the purpose is deadly serious.
