Low emissions and beyond

The European Union may be fractious in some regards but is at least unified under exhaust emissions legislation. The US is different, with a series of federal standards from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) plus state-imposed limits; California's Air Resources Board (ARB) has the most stringent anywhere in the world. Its low emission vehicle Ⅱ (LEV Ⅱ) legislation includes a category for super low emission vehicles (Sulev) far more demanding than Euro Ⅳ and even Euro Ⅵ proposals. The" rising demand for cleaner vehicles has prompted Mahle Powertain to add Sulev test capability at its Novi, Michigan, facility.
