The drive to be green was palpable at the Frankfurt car show. Carmakers emphasised economy and emission reduction as a priority both for current vehicles and future concepts.rnMany were exhibiting versions of existing line-ups that had been tweaked for better economy rather than presenting all-new technology as the way forward; others were focusing on how electricity could be harnessed as a fuel for the future.rnCity cars from Volkswagen and Toyota were among the show's highlights. VW's Up! concept is a 3.45m rear-engined city car with seating that can be altered to allow almost the whole interior to accommodate luggage. The aim is to create a highly flexible car for urban use.
