Toyota Prius tests protoype plug-in Prius in US and Japan markets

Toyota has developed a plug-in version of its Prius hybrid. Prototypes of the vehicle are testing in the US and Japan. Toyota's Prius has an 80 per cent share of US hybrid sales, but the market is still in the early stages of its development. General Motor's decision to try to get its own plug-in hybrid, the Volt, into mass production by 2010, may be pushing Toyota to defend its market leadership.
