Continental has developed an active throttle pedal that can improve vehicle safety and fuel economy. It vibrates to warn the motorist if they're driving too hard or too close to the next vehicle. Nissan will commercialise the technology in the next 12 months. It will use the technology to inform drivers, if their demand for acceleration exceeds the optimum rate for fuelrnefficiency. The drive-by-wire module contains an electric motor providing haptic feedback. Continental designed it to help prevent the rear-end accidents often caused by inattentive drivers.rnThe firm believes that warning the driver in this way is more effective than by aural or visual means.
