Fiat prepares three-litre car

Fiat will present a 3 litres/ 100km version of the Cinquecento later this year. If it sells, it will be a milestone for the industry.rnVolkswagen produced the industry's first three-litre car in 1999.The Lupo 3L combined a low-power diesel, stop-start system and tall-geared automated manual transmission to save fuel, but it was not a commercial success.rnFiat Group marketing director Nicholas Bernard said: "In the past few months there has been a distinct shift towards more economicalrnmodels. The future is not electric cars or hybrids -it's a continual development of existing technology."rnThe Cinquecento will feature Fiat's two-cylinder gasoline engine. The 900cc unit has an electrohydraulic valvetrain and will be available in turbocharged and naturally aspirated forms. A torque rating is yet to be confirmed, but the target is 140Nm; maximum power is 78kW (105hp).The naturally aspirated version has 48kW (65hp).
