BMW shows the way with 3D head-up display

BMW's engineers have developed a 3D head up display system that can overlay virtual data onto the road in front of the driver. The technology is highlighted in BMW's Vision ConnectedDrive concept car shown at this year's Geneva motor show. Much of the driver's windscreen is used for the system and it forms the main information interface for the driver, taking over from a conventional instrument cluster. It includes information on vehicle speed, navigational details and warnings. Various pieces of information can be shown at any given time, and depending on importance either brought to the foreground or kept in the background.
