GM wants autonomous driving systems ready by 2015 Smarter cars could cut accident rates and driver workload

GM is developing autonomous driving systems based on sensor fusion technology. The systems are being tested in Cadillac sedans, and could be ready for series production in 2015. Letting the vehicle take care of accelerating, braking and steering under certain conditions can improve safety and driver comfort by relieving workload and fatigue on long journeys or in heavy traffic.
