With the emphasis now on reducing CO_2 emissions, you could almost forget that in the 1980s, when forced induction first made a big impact in passenger car development the idea was just to squeeze more power from every cylinder. Saab and BMW used turbos first, but Renault applied them in a much wider range of applications, from the B-segment 5 hot hatch to the E-segment 25 V6 sedan.
