MAN brings hybrids to heavy commercial vehicles

MAN has developed a hybrid truck that will help reduce emissions and boost efficiency in heavy commercial vehicles. The TCX tractor unit concept uses a diesel-electric parallel hybrid system. The diesel engine is the main drive source, while the hybrid drive opens up the opportunity of recuperating, storing and reusing braking energy. The system mates a large-capacity diesel engine with a 130kW electric motor. The motor acts as an alternator when coasting and braking and the hybrid components weigh around 400kg.
