BMW improves i8's aerodynamics

BMW claims that its i8 plug-in hybrid benefits from two industry-first technologies that improve aerodynamics and reduce weight. The electric sports car has an electronic side-door latch system (SmartLatch) and hidden turn signals for the external mirrors that are both supplied by Magna. The SmartLatch system, suitable for any automotive vehicle size, requires no cables, rods or moving handles in the door, and the reduced number of components mean there will be a significant weight saving.
