MAGNA SHAPES UP FOR CARBON CONTRACT

Magna will produce painted class-A carbon-fibre panels to meet growing demand for lightweight body structures. The firm has contracts for two 2016 model-year vehicles. Carbon composites are expensive but Magna claims to have achieved competitive cycle times. OEMs need to cut fleet averages but many will struggle to achieve these through better powertrains alone: advanced composites can help. Magna Exterior's vice-president of product and process development, Tom Pilette, said: "With ourformulations and production expertise we've been able to take our carbon-fibre processing to the next level - outer body panels - and we're able to assist our customers meet fuel economy and emissions standards for their cars and trucks."
