ZF TRW helps keep drivers safe in far-side crashes

ZF TRW has developed an airbag that could provide the driver and front passenger of vehicles with greater side-impact protection. Integrated into the inner side of the seat back, the centre airbag is designed to help protect the head, shoulder and torso areas of front-seat occupants when it is deployed. In far-side crashes, where an oncoming vehicle or object strikes the opposite side of the vehicle to the driver, the airbag helps keep the driver in place and reduces risk of interaction with the passenger or surrounding structural interior parts. Equipped with a hybrid infiator, the airbag can inflate to a range of shapes, depending on the design preferences of the specific OEM.
