STOP-START SET TO MAKE IT BIG IN CHINA

Johnson Controls predicts that as many as 40% of vehicles in China will be equipped with stop-start in five years. The expectation has led the Tier One supplier to announce that it is to begin production in China of the lead-acid batteries required for the micro-hybrids. The stop-start technology is becoming increasingly applied by OEMs to meet emissions legislation and expectations are that by 2020 as many as 49 million vehicles globally will benefit from the systems. Johnson Controls said: "Stop-start is the best technology to help automakers meet increasingly strict environmental regulations while saving consumers money, as it requires minimal changes to the vehicle and costs significantly less than hybrid or electric vehicles."
