If Ford could sum up its philosophy for the Mondeo in a pithy phrase, then "good things come to those who wait" must surely be it. The fifth generation of the vehicle was originally unveiled in 2012, but the European launch was put back because of the global recession and the relocation of production from Belgium to Spain. Under the Fusion brand, the vehicle has been available in the US for some time but the delay in Europe has allowed Ford additional time to make sure that the Mondeo is the best it could be. Uli Koesters, Ford of Europe's vehicle line director for C- and D-segment cars, says: "For good or bad reasons, the retiming of the programme because of our manufacturing footprint has given us the luxury of the opportunity - from an engineering perspective - to work on some executions in more detail that a typical development cycle normally doesn't allow you to do."
