Ricardo develops 48V system with full-hybrid abilities

A Ricardo-led project has developed an affordable 48V hybrid system that could help OEMs meet future emissions requirements. The system fitted in a Ford Focus is capable of providing fuel economy close to that of a full hybrid. The technology enables highly aggressive engine downsizing and down-speeding beyond what might normally be possible other than through more expensive hybridisation approaches.
