Current status and future development of Electric Vehicles

Three forces have been and will continue to be responsible for the current and future evolution of road vehicles: customer demand, the rising cost of fuel, and national or international emissions regulations. Design changes can usually be observed first in cars, since these have a more limited life and are produced in greater numbers than goods vehicles. What is new is that, for the first time, the three driving forces seem to be about to unite and push in the same direction, argues Prof JD Turner of Southampton University.
