Learning how to change a car's flat tyre was, until not so long ago, one of the rites of passage for young boys yearning to be men. Most of us can remember the instructions from a father or other male figure: make sure all the doors are closed, loosen the lugnuts before the car is jacked up, tighten the lugnuts in a cross-over pattern, and lower the car to the ground before applying the final torque.
