摘要

In what appears to be a world first, police in Tasmania have used a blood sample extracted from a leech to identify a criminal, some seven years after the offence occurred.rnBack in September of 2001, in a rural area 200 kilometres north of Hobart, two men broke into the home of a 71-year-old woman, Fay Olson. The thieves were armed with sticks and their faces were obscured by the black hoods they were wearing. The men forced Mrs Olsen to open her safe, stealing $550 before they ran off into the bush.rnThey left their elderly victim tied up with a belt pulledrnaround her ankles.
