Australian wine sector: Demand assessment 2006

The supply assessment of the AWBC's Supply and Demand Assessment 2006 appears in the January/February 2007 issue of Australian Viticulture. Given the likelihood of a low yielding season in 2007, the expectation is for a return to supply-demand balance in 2009-10 from the combined effect of an easing of the national over supply and slowing export growth. The further prospect of another low yielding season in 2008 would see further draw-downs of stock to a balanced position as early as 2008-09. The prospects of lower-yielding seasons represent a valuable opportunity to draw down stocks but not necessarily a solution to the Australian wine sector's current over supply of wine.
