Girls and their comics: Finding a female voice in comic book narrative

This book is an academic analysis of the evolution of the comic book from a female perspective, that is, comic books written for girls and women and the depiction of women in comic books that are sometimes seen as associated with adolescent male fantasies. The author has an MA in children's literature from Roehampton University, London. The book is a scholarly argument, not a reader's advisory guide, nor is it aimed at everyday readers of comic books. The author argues as her central thesis that comics can give a voice to marginalised girls, particularly adolescents. She focuses on feminist comic books that have more didactic purposes, such as to show emotional trauma, social issues and cultural issues to girls.
