International maritime security law

摘要

The issue of maritime security entered the academic and policy planning lexicon perhaps some 20-odd years ago, albeit without an agreed definition so beloved by academic theoreticians and doctrine writers. As the authors note, perhaps the simplest way to think about maritime security is 'good order at sea'. While good order at sea is a naval term, achieving it involves many more players than just navies. This is a vast topic with numerous parties involved, operating under a bewildering array of international and national laws and regulations and all having differing perceptions of what constitutes maritime security, their role in it and its relative importance to other policy or security issues. The aim of this massive tome (some 24 detailed chapters) is to make sense of it all.
