NSW planning system to evolve under broad reforms proposed by the NSW Government

At the commencement of public exhibition of the draft Bill, the former Minister for Planning highlighted that NSW was experiencing the longest housing construction boom in NSW history and that these reforms would assist the delivery of 725,000 new homes forecast to be required by 2036. It is clear that the proposed reforms will have a broad impact on all developments, from residential developments to major projects, in an effort to achieve the NSW Government's housing goal and provide a consistent assessment process for major project applications and modifications.It is evident that these reforms also focus on greater community participation in the development assessment process and stronger compliance monitoring and enforcement within the NSW planning framework to try and strike a balance between community and developer visions for the future development potential of NSW.
