The Prism of Just War is a collection of papers written on 'just' war theory from various perspectives. A common theme is that despite widespread development of just war thought in the regions portrayed, no situation will be met with universal understanding (and particularly by the competing parties). As Franciso Suarez discerns, war cannot be 'just on both sides'. It is from here that broader influences such as creed, culture, philosophy and ideology mould a society's criterion of'just' war; addressing the fundamental issue of when, if ever, to resort to the use of force to resolve a dispute. And, if force is to be used, by what means and in what manner this should be conducted.
