摘要

Two years ago, in a review in Archives and Manuscripts, I commented on signs of a re-energised archival scene in the UK. It appeared that institutions, national arrangements, policies, and legislation were being refreshed, while the establishment of taskforces and commissions, new approaches to the coordination of access, and genuine cooperation between museums, libraries, and archives and between the various records professions confirmed a positive analysis. The development seemed in part to be driven by university-based archival educators at Dundee, Liverpool, London, and Aberystwyth. In 2008 alone, there had been conferences on the philosophy of the archive, the ontology of the archive, and the nature and relevance of the archival narrative.
