This month's Las Vegas Consumer Electronics Show (CES) was expected to mark a crucial turning point in the 1998 fate and character of Circuit City's controversial Digital Video Express (Divx) DVD proposal. If so, it would mark an unsettling quiet period in the brief, but tumultuous, history of Divx, save for the grass-roots catcalls touched off by Circuit City's early-September announcements.
