Dismantling of Nuclear Facilities -From a Structural Engineering Perspective

Dismantling projects in the nuclear sector have some specific features compared to the design of new nuclear facilities and dismantling projects in the conventional sector. They place high demands on the engineers involved in general and in many cases also on the structural engineers. Apart from the general requirements re-garding radiation protection, occupational safety, efficiency and cost effectiveness, it is important to take into account also other conditions which have a direct impact on technical details and the structural assess-ment of the dismantling project.
