TEPCO Holds Ceremony for Completing Kashiwazaki-Kariwa NPS

On October 28, the Tokyo Electric Power Co. (TEPCO) held a ceremony celebrating the completion of the construction of all seven units of Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Station (NPS), which has a total output of 8,212MW. The ceremony was held in a gymnasium at the plant site. With the start of commercial operation at Unit 7 last July - the final unit in the construction plan - Kashiwazaki-Kariwa NPS now has the largest output of any NPS in the world. The ceremony was held to commemorate the completion of the plan over nearly three decades since 1969, when the two local governments concerned, Kashiwazaki City and Kariwa Village, passed a resolution to invite NPS. About 700 persons, including people concerned and leaders of the local governments, participated in the ceremony. A fresh resolve was made at this occasion to keep plant operation safe in the future.
