ASSESSMENT OF THE EFFECT OF LOCAL PROTECTION DURING BRACHYTHERAPY WITH HETEROGENEITY CORRECTION FACTORS

In-tissue radiation therapy of malignant tumors (brachytherapy) using different microsources, which are introduced into the body, is characterized by high effectiveness of the treatment and the absence of any need for surgical intervention. Local protection is used to screen healthy organs from irradiation during brachytherapy, as a rule in the form of disks made of various materials, and careful calculations of the dose distribution by means of the Sievert integral [1], accumulation factors [2], Monte Carol techniques, discrete ordinates, and subtraction of scattering [3] are performed prior to treatment. The Monte Carlo method, requiring substantial computing time, is usually used.
