SAFETY VALIDATION OF THE VK-50 BOILING WATER VESSEL REACTOR WITH LARGE COOLANT LEAKS

The results of investigations of radiolytic processes and radiation safety of the VK-50 boiling water vessel reactor with natural circulation of the coolant are presented. The operational particularities of the catalytic hydrogen burning systems with elevated moisture content in the steam-gas system during accidents are presented. The particularities of phase transfer of radionuclides limiting the consequences of serious beyond design basis accidents in a boiling water vessel reactor are validated. A unique methodology for determining the radiation conditions in an emergency room is presented. The technological schemes and operating regimes making it possible to eliminate situations with equipment explosions and emission of radionuclides into the environment are validated.
