摘要

The paper by Jiang (2003) (hereinafter referred to as Jiang2003) proposed an equation for the instantaneous secondary organic aerosol yield (IA Y). Knipping et al. (2004) have commented on Jiang2003 from the experimental aspect and pointed out that there is a major assumption (i.e., there is no mass concentration of any previously existing organic aerosol) in the derivation of Jiang2003's IAY equation that limits its use. In reply to the comments of Knipping et al. (2004), Jiang (2004) (hereinafter referred to as Jiang2004) argued that Jiang2003's IA Y equation inherited this limitation from the overall aerosol yield (OAY) equation of Odum et al. (1996) and this limitation existed in the widespread applications of other smog chamber-generated results. The purpose of this note is to make comments on problems and errors found in both Jiang2003 and Jiang2004 from the mathematical aspect.
