Research over the past decade has shown that changes in atmospheric composition directly affect numerous aspects of life. They influence climate, ultraviolet radiation levels, regional air quality and the deposition of chemicals onto the Earth. Such environmental issues in turn affect the fundamental necessities of human existence: human health, food production, ecosystem health and water resources. Atmospheric composition change research shows how the physics and chemistry of the atmosphere respond to human activities.
