Organisational changes for consolidating sustainable agriculture and rural development in Europe: the role of farmers' networking strategies

We wish to analyse the difficulties and conditions of success of organizational change processes implemented by farmers' groups and their partners engaged in the consolidation of sustainable agriculture and rural development. These changes reflect amajor concern for building networks, collaborative projects and for developing collective efficiency for sustainability. Our analysis is based on the presentation of four case studies from Denmark, France, Latvia and The Netherlands. It is carried out in 1997-2000 to a sample of 20 farmers' groups and networks. The case studies show that innovative farmers' groups can play an important role in the process of sustainable agricultural development asked for by society.
