Brazil-based Padtec has unveiled the ROPA (Remote Optically Pumped Amplifier) C+. The company says ROPA amplifier system will support high-speed wavelength transmission over "very long distances," which obviates the need for intermediate regeneration stations. The ROPA C+ will support transmission over greater than 300 km, which Padtec asserts is up to 3X the reach conventional amplification systems can enable. The ROPA C+ is part of Padtec's family of optical amplifiers that includes EDFAs, Raman, and what the company says are the most compact EDFA/Raman hybrid models available.
