R&D speeds toward integrated A/V systems

Slim car TVs now have GPS and double as rearview systems. DVD player come with touchscreens, USB ports and card readers. Options are plentiful for buyers looking for in-car entertainment products such as DVD players, TVs/monitors and CD/MP3 players from mainland China, Hong Kong SAR and Taiwan. Taiwan leads the pack with its integrated infotainment systems. An in-car DVD/VCD player from Taiwan will typically come with a touch-screen TFT-LCD monitor and TV tuner and can play back CD/CD-R/RW and MP3 files. AM/FM tuner, data player, GPS navigation and automotive rearview systems are standard options for the buyer. Mainland makers offer super-slim panels for in-car monitors, multisystem support, GPS navigation and advanced antishock. Hong Kong suppliers have designed a roof-mounted DVD player, added a USB port and built-in card reader to their car CD/MP3 players and will introduce DivX function in H2 2005.
