Why FPSO's require reliable power

It was during the 1950s that oil was first produced from reasonably shallow offshore locations. Initially all of the oil was extracted from the seabed by using offshore oil platforms that sat on huge columns located on the seabed. During the 1970s, the first floating, production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessels were developed and their success has meant that these massive vessels are now in general use. Their wide range of onboard technologies are sophisticated, reliable, safe and extremely well proven having been evolved over many years of 'hands-on research and development.
