The electricity sector in India is going through a period of significant growth and change. Among other aspects, the government is focussed on providing universal access and 24x7 supply. The primary fuel sector has been revamped with the auction of coal mines; energy efficiency in sectors from lighting to transport is being addressed; and a major attempt at transforming the energy mix-with a goal of 175 GW of renewable energy by 2022-is under way.
