Thailand will enter a new golden age for biogas in 2021, claims RE Power Groups managing director Gustaf Godenhielm at the Asian Power Virtual Conference 2020. The so-called golden age will follow a stagnation in the Thai biogas sector from 2014 to 2020, which was caused by the sudden unavailability of the very small power producer (VSPP) programme in November 2014. Under that programme, Thailand has been a pioneer in the biogas sector across ASEAN for there were generous tax incentives as well as non-firm guaranteed off-take for the VSPPs. Due to this, Thailand's biogas market boomed, with approximately 400MW of biogas projects selling electricity to the grid built by the end of 2014.
