The aerospace industry is the most important segment of French manufacturing. The sector has created many of the industry's firsts. While the civil aerospace sector mostly dominates the market, spearheaded by the Airbus Group, the military aircraft sector is expanding due to the quest by world militaries to achieve greater airpower superiority. As such, this boosts the French aerospace industry with increasing orders for airframes and equipment. This is the very fact that drives the French aerospace industry to soar it gains a bigger portion of the world aerospace market. The French aerospace industry is now among the best in the world, ranked second after the United States and ahead of China. Analysts said that in 2017, the French aerospace industry recorded revenues of $69 billion, due to the strong performance of export giants such as Airbus, Safran, Dassault and Thales. France, along with the United States, are the only countries to export airliners, business jets, helicopters and fighter jets, with France now the main contributor to the European space industry.
