The Southeast Asian naval market is considered as one of the most lucrative in the world. Russia, the US, Germany, China and the UK are market leaders there, accounting for 80% of the market. Germany has also been very active, boosting exports of submarines, patrol boats and corvettes. The US, Germany and Australia have taken the leading positions in patrol and landing ships and boats, with 60% of the market. South Korea and Singapore, which pos-sess their own shipbuilding industries, are likely to increase exports of indigenously designed warships. Southeast Asian navies by 2010 are expected to purchase eight to ten diesel-electric submarines, six to eight frigates, 12 to 14 corvettes, 20 to 25 missile boats, 20 to 25 minesweepers, 100 to 120 landing craft, and 200 to 300 patrol ships and boats.
