United States Defence Secretary Robert Gates has praised Malaysia for the role it played in various peacekeeping and humanitarian missions. Gates said Malaysia's moderate stance on various global issues also made the country an important partner in the region to major powers. He also commended Malaysia for assigning medical team to the war-torn Afghanistan and Malaysia's contribution in keeping world peace.
